UK and European TV in Gran Alacant: what really works
Each country broadcasts from a different satellite, and they do not all reach the Costa Blanca equally well.
UK channels
BBC, ITV and most British channels are carried on the 28.2° East satellites. Their beam is focused on the British Isles, so the signal reaching the Costa Blanca is weak. It needs a much larger dish than at home, mounted very firmly and aligned precisely. Even then, a few channels may drop out in heavy cloud. We will tell you honestly what to expect before we start.
Irish, German, French and Italian TV
German public channels and many European services come from Astra 19.2° East, Italian and Polish channels from Hot Bird 13° East, and French free channels via Fransat on 5° West. These arrive with good strength here, and two of them can often share one dish.
Nordic channels
Scandinavian services sit around 1° West and are usually receivable on the coast with a medium-sized dish. Most need the provider’s own card and receiver.
Watching over the internet
If satellite reception for a particular channel is unreliable, the broadcasters’ official apps over a good internet connection may be the better route. We can run a network cable or set up Wi-Fi to the TV so streaming works properly.
Why aerials fail up on the headland
- Salt air corrodes connectors and brackets; we fit stainless fixings and sealed connectors.
- Strong winds twist badly fixed aerials by a few degrees, which is enough to lose channels.
- Mobile 5G now uses frequencies that older amplifiers still pick up, causing pixelation. A suitable filter usually cures it.
- Empty winters: holiday homes often need a check-up before the summer.

Yes, as long as someone can let us in — a neighbour, the community caretaker or your rental agent. We send photos and a short report by WhatsApp or email when we finish.
Do you have an office in Gran Alacant?
No. We work at your home: the technician drives up to Gran Alacant with the van and materials. Most call-outs are handled the same day or the next.
Will I get every UK channel?
Not always. Because the UK satellite beam is weak in this part of Spain, some channels may be unstable even with a large dish. We measure at your property and tell you before installing.
